Following the midterm elections primary in June, candidate Amy L. Slavensky beat out runner up Sanaz Motamedi. Now Slavensky will run in the general election against incumbent and Republican Assemblymember Josh Hoover for Assembly District 7.

Hoover’s bio states he is a “passionate advocate” for California families. His top priorities include ensuring communities remain a great place to live, work, and go to school. He serves as the Vice Chair of the Assembly Committee on Jobs, Economic Development, and the Economy where he works to support small businesses and bring great jobs to our region. He is also a member of the California Problem Solvers Caucus, a bipartisan group of legislators committed to finding common sense solutions to challenges throughout the state.
Hoover serves on the Assembly Select Committee on Serving Students with Disabilities. For his work advocating for students, he was named Folsom’s Young Professional of the Year in 2020.
Prior to his election to the Assembly, Hoover also served as a school board member in the Folsom Cordova Unified School District.
Recently, Hoover was appointed to serve as the California Assembly Republican Minority Floor Leader, joining the Assembly Republican leadership team under newly selected Assembly Republican Leader Alexandra M. Macedo.
Hoover has been elected to the State Assembly twice, most recently defeating local candidate and current Vice Mayor Porsche Middelton in the 2024 primary elections by a narrow margin.

Amy Slavensky is running as a Democrat and was born and raised in the Fair Oaks and Carmichael communities according to her online biography.
Slavensky said she grew up attending public schools and that her family was on food stamps, Medi-Cal, and subsidized housing. She recognized early that public systems and education “can be the difference between stability and falling through the cracks.”
Slavensky has been a public educator for 40 years according to her bio, serving in a range of positions from teacher to principal to superintendent of Amador County Unified School District, before and during the COVID pandemic. She has also served as the deputy superintendent at San Juan Unified School District.
Slavensky received a Bachelor of Arts and teaching credential from Point Loma College (now Point Loma Nazarene University), a Master’s of Education degree from Azusa Pacific University, and a Ph.D. in Educational Leadership and Administration at Claremont Graduate University. She has also completed the California School Boards Association’s (CSBA) Master’s in Governance program.
California Assembly District 7 includes the cities of Citrus Heights, Folsom, and Rancho Cordova and the unincorporated communities of Carmichael, Fair Oaks, Foothill Farms, Gold River, Mather, McClellan Park, North Highlands, Orangevale, and Rosemont.
