Sentinel staff report–
This week’s Letters to the Editor discuss City Council candidates, road resurfacing, and the new “Welcome to Citrus Heights” mural.
Charles Stone’s Candidate statement: As one of the founders of the City, I am dismayed that Charles Stone thinks so little of our community. Stone quotes AreaVibes.com who gives Citrus Heights a D-grade. AreaVibes.com says the Sunrise Mall “has a wide range of retail stores and dining options”. The site also mentions the “Red White and Blue Parade” which hasn’t occurred for several years. This is obsolete information, yet Stone cites that source in his statement.
Stone also cites high crime as a problem. According to the FBI Uniform Crime Reporting data, crime as trended downward for the last ten years. Property crime is down 40% during that period.
Stone also implies criticism of the Sunrise Tomorrow Plan. That plan is a grassroots plan arising from community input, and reflects the citizens’ dream for the future of Citrus Heights. Staff and Council have responded to the people’s wishes.
If Stone is elected, I wonder how effective he would be, having given the City staff, the Police Department, and fellow Council members the D- grade. I would rather have a Council member who supports our progress so far and is guided by the vision of the citizens.

Welcome to Citrus Heights Mural: I appreciate the volunteers and effort that went into the Mural on Auburn Boulevard. It’s always nice to see our community coming together. The ” WELCOME TO ” is bright and visible, However the ” CITRUS HEIGHTS ” is a strange color not bright and kind of hard to read.

Strengthening our infrastructure: Thank you to all involved on the work done on Auburn Blvd. The paving on Oak Ave between Fair Oaks and Kenneth looks good. The multi layers I assume saved dollars vs to replace asphalt? It will be interesting to see how well it holds up with layers put over uneven areas with dips. Thank you for your work in strengthening our infrastructure.
