One resident was injured and two pets were rescued during an apartment fire that occurred Tuesday afternoon in the area of Sylvan Road and Old Auburn Road, Sacramento Metro Fire District officials say.
Just after 2 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to a commercial apartment fire at 6317 San Pablo Drive in Citrus Heights, Upon arrival, firefighters encountered a well-involved apartment fire. One male resident escaped the apartment on his own but sustained minor burns, officials said. The patient was transported to a local hospital for medical evaluation and treatment.
Photos released by the fire district show a room destroyed by flames down to the studs of the walls, with debris of charred remains in piles. Fire crews had to cut a hole in the roof of the apartment unit in order to vent the room, or allow smoke to escape.
One dog and one cat were also rescued from the fire, Metro Fire Captain Mark Nunezz said Tuesday. Both pets are said to be doing fine. The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
Metro Fire would like to remind residents that working smoke alarms save lives.
“A fire can spread rapidly, leaving occupants with only minutes to escape. Install smoke alarms inside every bedroom, outside each sleeping area, and on every level of your home. Test your alarms monthly and replace them according to the manufacturer’s recommendations,” Metro Fire says.
