Officers from the Citrus Heights Police Department stopped a vehicle for code violations Tuesday night and found narcotics, a loaded handgun, and cash in the vehicle.

Police Lt. Michael Wells told The Sentinel two males, ages 23 and 19, were arrested on related drug and weapons charges. Both men were from Rancho Cordova, he said.

The incident occurred sometime Tuesday night or in the early morning hours of Wednesday, according to a post from the department on social media. Officers found an unregistered Glock handgun with a “high capacity magazine,” narcotics such as xanax, oxycodone, and LSD, along with $3,000 in cash. Four pounds of marijuana were also found in the vehicle.

Police Chief Ronald Lawrence congratulated officers in a posted to social media Wednesday.

“Excellent police work by our Citrus Heights PD professionals,” Lawrence said. “Thank you for making our city of Citrus Heights safer!”

In a separate and unrelated incident on Monday, officers responded to a call about a man brandishing a knife. Wells said officers took an adult male into custody and placed him on a psychiatric hold after determining the man “suffered from a mental health issue.” The man was transported to a local hospital and no charges were filed, police said.

Monday’s incident occurred near Madison Avenue and San Juan Avenue. A local business owner who witnessed the incident told The Sentinel in a phone call Wednesday he was glad the incident ended peacefully and no one was hurt.
