Funeral to be held Thursday for Citrus Heights Marching Band founder

Community members are invited to attend a graveside funeral this Thursday for Citrus Heights Community Marching Band founder Kathy Cook.

Citrus Heights Councilwoman Jeannie Bruins said the funeral is scheduled for 10 a.m. on Sept. 2 at Sylvan Cemetery. She said Kathy’s husband, Bill, is inviting any community members to attend the funeral, which will also be followed by lunch for more than 100 people at the Cook family home.

Kathy Cook passed away on Aug. 25, according to an announcement from the band. She was known for her role in founding the all-volunteer community marching band in 2005, and serving as band manager throughout the years.

The band is known for its performances at community events around the region, annually playing at the Citrus Heights Tree Lighting ceremony and organizing a flash-mob at Walmart each December.
