Police respond to reports of bomb-like explosions in Citrus Heights

By Mike Hazlip—
Reports of loud, bomb-like explosions in Citrus Heights on Sunday night generated several calls to police as well as chatter on a local crime watch group.

Police Lt. Jason Baldwin said dispatchers received two different calls regarding the loud noises. Multiple officers responded to the area of Navion Drive and Sunburst Way but did not find shell casings or firework debris, he said.

A post on a Citrus Heights crime watch group on Facebook asked whether “bombs” were going off, and others reported hearing the sounds near Auburn Boulevard and other parts of the city.

Baldwin said it appeared an incident did occur based on reports from callers, but added that the lack of evidence is “frustrating” for officers and residents alike.

The lieutenant said residents are encouraged to call police dispatch with any reports of similar noises or suspicious activity.
