Sentinel staff report–
The Citrus Heights City Council will meet this Thursday to address topics including potential approval of a $17,000 grant request from the Chamber of Commerce, adjustments to employee retirement contributions, and strategic planning for public safety enhancements.
The council’s Jan. 25 meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at City Hall, located at 6360 Fountain Square Drive. A summary of what’s on the 41-page agenda is included below.
Animal Services. A report will be provided to the council with an update on the city’s Animal Services Unit, covering its operations and possible improvements. It serves as an informational item without requiring immediate action or fiscal changes. A staff report says Animal Services handles around 3,000 for service per year. A lifetime dog licensing option is also listed in the report, with the fee to be considered at an upcoming Feb. 22 council meeting.
$17k Grant. The council will consider approving a $17,010 grant to the Chamber of Commerce, aimed at supporting local economic development activities. The grant allocation requested includes annual sponsorship for $10,000, plus an additional $7,010 for annual costs to rent the Citrus Heights Community Center for Chamber luncheons. Funding would come from the city’s Economic Development Support Fund, which has $80,000 allocated for the current fiscal year, according to a staff report.
Retirement Cost-sharing. The council will consider amending a contract with CalPERS to increase certain public safety employees’ contributions for retirement cost-sharing to 13%, up from 12%. A staff report says the fiscal impact “will result in a reduction to the City’s benefits expense account.”
Police Tech: The Police Department will present a plan to the City Council regarding “crime detection and prevention technology in commercial areas.”
The meeting will also include four presentations: recognition of former Mayor Tim Schaefer, a presentation by Republic Services regarding poster contest winners, and presentations from the Firefighters Burn Institute and Sacramento Regional Family Justice Center.
