A Citrus Heights Police officer involved in a two-car collision on Christmas Eve is recovering at home after his vehicle was involved in a collision with another vehicle just before midnight on Dec. 24.
California Highway Patrol said Tuesday that both vehicles collided in the intersection of Antelope Road and Amsterdam Avenue, and the drivers of each vehicle were transported to the hospital with mild to moderate injuries.
Citrus Heights Police reported Tuesday that the injured officer was released from the hospital on Dec. 25 and “should be back to work shortly,” but didn’t specify what date. Police confirmed that the other party involved in the collision was also released from the hospital on Dec. 25.
Law enforcement officials say the accident is being investigated by the California Highway Patrol as is protocol in order to ensure an impartial investigative review.
The officer involved in the collision was responding to an emergency call from the Sacramento Metro Fire Department, who had requested police assistance to handle a combative patient, authorities said.
The investigation could take several weeks, police said, referring further questions to CHP.
The California Highway Patrol said the cause of the collision is unknown. and that the accident remains under investigation.
