A house fire in Citrus Heights sent one person to the hospital and resulted in the loss of three pets Wednesday evening, according to officials.
Sacramento Metro Fire crews were dispatched to the incident in the early evening on New Year’s Eve to a home located on Longden Circle, according to a Dec. 31 press release. Upon arrival, firefighters found a well-involved fire originating in the garage that had already extended into the main living area of the home.
Crews immediately attacked the fire and conducted a search to confirm if any occupants were trapped inside. The family was home at the time of the incident and told firefighters they heard a loud popping sound coming from the garage. When they went to investigate, they encountered heavy fire and were able to evacuate the home right away.
Despite challenging conditions, crews were able to bring the fire under control and prevent it from spreading. One individual was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. Firefighters also located three of the family’s dogs inside the home, all of which were found deceased, the media release reported.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
