A clothing store and a hat store closed over the weekend at Sunrise Mall.
Employees at both TORRID and Lids confirmed in the second week of January that they were scheduled to be closing their doors on Monday and Sunday, respectively.
A visit to Sunrise Mall on Tuesday found both stores vacant and shuttered, adding to the dozen stores that closed inside the mall in 2025 alone.
Businesses that remain open include JCPenney, Perfumes Luxe, La Estetica hair salon, Shoe Palace, Famous Footwear, T-Mobile, Ron’s Jewelers, Kay Jewelers, Image, Royal Stage Theater, Tops Men’s Fashion, California Basics, and T&Z Toys.
A Lids employee confirmed the store’s last day was scheduled to be Jan. 18 and that the decision to close was a corporate decision and related to lack of profitability. Inventory will be transferred to other store locations nearby. A manager was not available for comment, the employee said.
Lids has multiple locations across the region, including two in Roseville, one in Folsom, and two on Arden Way. Lids merchandise can also be purchased on the company’s website.
TORRID employees confirmed last week that the store’s last date of operation was Monday, Jan. 19. The store is currently running a clearance sale on all merchandise, and at least half the store’s merchandise was sold, leaving multiple empty shelves and racks.
TORRID, a plus-size clothing store, had a 50 percent off sale sign posted for several weeks between November and December. Sentinel staff observed on multiple visits to the store.
“We can speculate all day,” one employee said, adding that the decision to close was handed down from corporate officials and that no reason was given to the staff of the Sunrise Mall location.
In a paper note posted to the store’s entrance, TORRID listed other store locations in the region, including one at the Roseville Galleria, one at Arden Fair Mall, and one in Natomas. TORRID merchandise can also be purchased on the company’s website.
