A national gaming store located in the Citrus Town Center on Greenback Lane has avoided national store closure lists for several years running.

GameStop has continued to reduce its nationwide retail footprint by closing hundreds of stores each year since 2024, according to store closure lists released over the past two years.

A list of planned store closures for 2026 includes 470 locations nationwide, including a long list of stores in California. Two Sacramento-area GameStop stores and one location in Davis, are listed, but the Citrus Heights GameStop location does not.

The Citrus Heights location was also spared from a separate list of more than 640 GameStop closures in 2025, which included a store in Folsom and another in Sacramento on Calvine Road.

In addition, company closure data from 2024 shows that 216 GameStop stores closed that year, including a location in Roseville on Lead Hill Boulevard.

National news outlets report that GameStop’s December Securities and Exchange Commission documents show the company officials have closed 590 stores during its fiscal year 2024.

Company officials also said they “anticipate closing a significant number of additional stores in fiscal 2025.” The fiscal year ends on Jan. 31, 2026.
