Voting for popular ‘City Scoop’ ice cream social spots underway

By Sara Beth Williams–
Voting is now currently open for this year’s annual City Scoop ice cream social summer series locations, the city announced last week.

The deadline to vote for locations for this year’s summer ice cream social series ends on Feb. 17. Residents can vote on the city’s website.

The city has released eight locations to choose from, and is asking residents to vote for their favorite two locations before 4 p.m. on Feb. 17.

The eight locations listed by the city for selection include:

  • Westwood Park, 8100 Butternut Drive
  • Sylvan Middle School, 7085 Auburn Blvd.
  • Greenback Wood Park, 6855 Flaming Arrow Drive
  • Crosswoods Park, 6742 Auburn Blvd.
  • Cambridge Heights Elementary, 5555 Fleetwood Drive
  • Tempo Park, 13125 Fair Oaks Blvd.
  • Arcade Creek Park Preserve, 6377 Bonham Cir.
  • Skycrest Elementary School, 5641 Mariposa Ave.

Summer ice cream social events are designed to encourage and facilitate community gatherings among neighbors, city staff, and other community members, according to the city’s website. Ice cream socials occur during summer months and feature free ice cream, vendor booths, and backyard-style games and activities.

Last year, City Scoop was held at San Juan High School, Van Maren Park, and Mesa Verde High School.

In 2024, City Scoop was held at Sylvan Oaks Library in June and Lichen K-8 in August. An event scheduled to be held at Metro Fire Station 27 in July was canceled due to extreme heat.

In 2023, the inaugural City Scoop summer series featured ice cream socials at Greenback Greenspace, Sylvan Community Center, and Westwood Park.

Once votes are counted, the top two locations overall will be announced later in the spring at a yet-to-be-determined date.
