Citrus Heights home damaged in two overnight fires

By Sara Beth Williams–
A home undergoing remodel on Twin Oaks Avenue in Citrus Heights caught fire twice within several hours overnight.

According to a press release from Sacramento Metro Fire Wednesday morning, firefighters were first dispatched around 9:50 p.m. Tuesday to a house fire at 7876 Twin Oaks Avenue. When crews arrived, they found fire burning in the attic of the home.

Firefighters contained the blaze to the attic space, preventing it from spreading into the living areas of the residence. Crews then conducted extensive overhaul operations to search for hidden fire and assess additional damage.

The homeowner was inside the residence when the first fire began and reported smelling smoke before investigating further. After noticing smoke coming from the eaves of the home, the resident exited safely and called 911. Officials said the home was undergoing remodeling at the time of the fire.

Metro Fire’s investigation team responded to begin interviews and determine what caused the initial fire. No injuries were reported.

Several hours later, at 5:20 a.m. Wednesday morning, firefighters were called back to the same address after a second fire was reported.

Upon arrival, crews found a well-involved fire burning on the main floor of the home. No occupants were inside the home at the time, and no injuries were reported. Metro Fire said the homeowner was not home.

Following containment of the fire, Metro Fire investigators remained at the scene Wednesday morning the media release said, and are conducting a thorough investigation into both fires.
