Big Day of Service signups open April 15

By Sara Beth Williams–
For the second year in a row, Citrus Heights has joined in the Big Day of Service – a day dedicated to bringing community members together to complete dozens of community services projects throughout Orangevale, Fair Oaks and now Citrus Heights.

Signups open officially on April 15, and community members can participate in projects that cover all kinds of categories, including art projects, gardening projects, painting, building, and clean-up projects.

Projects will take place across the three cities at parks, schools, community centers, and other nonprofits, such as the Sunrise Christian Food Ministry pantry. Some projects are indoors, many are outdoors; some are specifically marked as family friendly.

As of Friday, projects specifically held in Citrus Heights include two school beautification projects, several park clean up and improvement projects, a wall mural project, building a privacy screen at the Sunrise Christian Food Ministry food closet, garden projects at the FieldHaven Cat Sanctuary, packing hygiene kits for homeless, showing love to seniors at two different senior community centers, and more.

The Big Day of Service is presented by the Rotary Clubs of Fair Oaks and Orangevale and takes place on May 16.

Volunteer check-in and a kickoff rally are scheduled to take place at Bella Vista High School between 7:30 and 9:30 a.m.

Projects will last from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

Bella Vista High School is located at 8301 Madison Ave. in Fair Oaks.

Anyone interested in signing up for a project can register at the Big Day of Service’s website.
