By Sara Beth Williams–
Several nonprofits across the region are participating in Big Day of Giving, which takes place on May 1, according to BigDayofGiving.org. Below are several local nonprofits that are petitioning the community to donate to various causes in Citrus Heights.

FieldHaven Feline Center: the feline vet clinic nonprofit agency is seeking to raise thousands in order to help feral cats in need of emergency care and spay and neutering.

Along with helping to provide low to no cost veterinary care for financially challenged pet owners and rescuers, the funds raised will help fund supplies, veterinary care, shelter building and 2nd Chance Ranch sanctuary renovations, as well as renovations to the Marketplace Thrift shop located in Loomis.

The nonprofit also said $150,000 is needed to help open a low and no-cost spay and neuter clinic program in its future Citrus Heights location on Old Auburn Road.

FeildHaven is seeking to raise $70,000. Visit their donation page here.

Sunrise Christian Food Ministry: Since the beginning of the Sunrise Christian Food Ministry in 1983 the number of individuals served has continually increased, the nonprofit says, adding that they currently serve over 1,800 families and 6,000 individuals on a monthly basis.

This year, the food pantry says they have recently upgraded a an enclosed storage areas at the food closet, and are fundraising to further protect the fenced in areas with security screen material. Their goal is to raise $10,000. Donate here.

Citrus Heights HART: Giving to the Citrus Heights Homeless Assistance and Resource Team helps fund Rental Assistance and Homelessness Prevention programs such as emergency stabilization services, Winter Sanctuary support and utility assistance, the nonprofit says.

The nonprofit is all-volunteer, and 100 percent of donations go directly to assistance programs. Citrus Heights HART is looking to raise $10,000. Residents can donate here.

Royal Stage Performing and Visual Arts: Royal Stage is looking for funding to continue to operate its theater productions, summer camps, and over 50 visual and performing arts classes, which are offered in Citrus Heights and Roseville.

The community theater and arts nonprofit is also looking for volunteers with “a passion for fundraising, advertising, painting, sewing, and administrative tasks,” and creating partnerships with licensed therapists, experienced dancers and actors, set designers, and costumers. The nonprofit’s goal is to raise $10,000.

Citrus Heights Community Marching Band: The community marching band is continuing to raise funds for a new amphitheater to be constructed at Rusch Community Park in honor of Kathy Cook, the band’s late founder.

The band is looking to raise $200,000 for the construction. Residents can donate here or visit the band’s website to purchase a commemorative brick as part of fundraising for the amphitheater.

Citrus Heights Arts: The local arts nonprofit says donations help fund everything from monthly art workshops and creative events, like painting, journaling, vision boarding, scrap journaling; art project and mural supplies, materials, permits, equipment, and event space rentals; fair compensation for artists and instructors, and overall program stability.

This year the nonprofit’s goal is to raise $2,500. Residents can visit citrusheightsarts.org for more information or donate here.

San Juan Education Foundation: The San Juan Education Foundation aims to distribute hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant funding throughout the district, including to schools in Citrus Heights. The nonprofit has in the past given out grants that have helped schools fund field trips, theater productions, and community gardens and helped schools purchase materials such as ukuleles for Lichen K-8, new sets of percussion instruments for the Mesa Verde High School music program, microscopes for science and art classes at Carriage Elementary.

This year, the nonprofit is seeking to raise funds to support “PROPEL Readiness” — equipping elementary classrooms with the tools students need to stay calm, focused, and ready to learn. The goal for the foundation is to raise $12,000.

Jake’s Journey Home: Jake’s Journey Home is an all-volunteer nonprofit community assistance center and mobile outreach entity which works with Folsom, Orangevale, Citrus Heights, Fair Oaks, and outlying communities providing center-navigational services for our unhoused and at-risk Veterans and community members.

The nonprofit now has a brick and mortar to offer more substantial services and hopes to open another center in the future as they continue with both their mobile assistance and permanent assistance center.

Cap Valley Futbol Club: Founded in 2020 through the merger of five long-standing local clubs, CVFC has grown into a home for more than 750 players between the ages of 4 and 18.

The nonprofit seeks to use donations to fund scholarships for their sports programs, which they say helps to create pathways to physical activity, positive peer relationships, mentorship, and personal development for youth in underserved areas.

In 2025 CVFC provided over $70,000 in scholarships and the need continues to rise. This year, they are seeking to raise S25,000.

“Our mission is rooted in community and youth development through sport,” the nonprofit says.
