After two years, the former 99 Cents Only Store in Citrus Heights has a new tenant, which plans to open this summer.
In 2024, all 99 Cents Only Stores shuttered across the region following the company’s bankruptcy announcement, including the Citrus Heights location at Greenback Lane and San Juan Avenue.
This week, new signage on the front of the building indicates that a new Goodwill store called Pacific Thrift Store is taking up the building, with a banner saying “Coming Soon” hanging from the front façade.
Employees unloading goodwill merchandise from a large van said that the new thrift store plans to open for business in about a month. Employees also confirmed that there is another thrift store of the same name located on Watt Avenue and expect that location to remain open for business.
Pacific Thrift Store will fill a portion of the 43,600-square-foot building, which also used to house Crunch Fitness. Crunch Fitness closed abruptly in the summer of 2024.
The building was listed for sale for $8.3 million in early 2026 and is still for sale, according to commercial real estate site LoopNet.
The online listing indicates that 19,900 square feet of space is still available and that the owner is currently “exploring” leasing the remaining space while the buildings are listed for sale.
Green Acres Nursery and Supply also occupies another space in the same parking lot, facing San Juan Avenue, and the building housing Green Acres is not included in the sale.
The Pacific Thrift Store location on Watt Avenue sells a variety of merchandise, with an online store showing home décor, furniture, clothes, appliances, and more. The store is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. six days a week and closed on Sundays.
The company’s website shows the Pacific Thrift Store was established in June 2013 in North Highlands. The store’s profits are used to support widows, immigrants, and refugees both locally and internationally, reaching those in need around the world.
Pacific Thrift Store also organizes family and youth camps for underprivileged children and their families, with initiatives spanning across various countries, including Ukraine, Spain, and Russia, plus others.
“Every dollar generated by the store is dedicated to mission initiatives, making a positive impact both locally and globally,” the company says.
The thrift store also partners with multiple local agencies, including the Union Gospel Mission, the Assistance League of Placer, Chicks in Crisis, the American Cancer Society, and the Alternative Sentencing Program.
The new Pacific Thrift Store location will be located at 7424 Greenback Ln.
