A new shoe warehouse located in the Marketplace at Birdcage has set a grand opening celebration for the last weekend in June.
Designer Shoe Warehouse, which is taking over the large suite formerly occupied by Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse, has scheduled a grand opening celebration for June 27, the company’s district manager said last week. The shoe store will open officially on June 25, and celebrate the opening the following weekend from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. with activities for the community.
Off Broadway Shoe Warehouse, located in a high-traffic corner suite at the Marketplace at Birdcage, permanently closed after 20 years in business.
A visit to the shopping center in January found the entrance to the shoe store taped off, with two large shipping containers out front. The inside of the store appeared vacant and cleared out of merchandise, with multiple piles of boxes seen on the inside of the empty store. The signature black, white and red lettering had also been removed from the store’s facade.

Designer Shoe Warehouse was quick to take over the 18,168-square-foot storefront and was listed in leasing materials shortly after Off Broadway left the space.
Designer Shoe Warehouse is owned by Designer Brands and offers brand name and designer dress, casual and athletic footwear and accessories. The first store opened in 1991 in Dublin, Ohio. Today, DSW operates almost 500 stores in the United States according to its website.
Designer Shoe Warehouse has an established online store for online ordering, as well as three other locations in the region, including one in Folsom, Sacramento, and Roseville.
