An armed male was detained Thursday afternoon after police pursued him down the middle of Auburn Boulevard near Greenback Lane following his involvement in a reported dispute at a nearby retail center.
Westbound lanes on Auburn Boulevard were temporarily closed just before 2:30 p.m. on Thursday as police pursued a known transient who was holding a knife or other sharp object close to his neck while walking in the middle of the four-lane roadway.
Police cruisers followed the man through the middle of the street, warning multiple times that force would be used against him if he continued to wield the weapon or use the weapon against himself.
Officers were able to detain the man. No injuries were reported to officers or the man wielding the weapon. Lanes were reopened once the subject was detained and taken into custody.
A large police presence was also witnessed at the shopping plaza on the corner of Greenback Lane and Auburn Boulevard where the man had originated from.
Citrus Heights Police Sgt. Eric Dias told The Sentinel that the man was taken into custody and that the incident did not result in any shooting.
