Jerry Ray Still passed on August 7, 2026, at the age of 83.
In 1946, the Still family and the McPherson family decided to move together from Southern California to the “promised land”, Oregon. On the way, the flatbed truck broke down on Highway 40 (the Lincoln Highway) near today’s location of Rusch Park. They settled there across the street from what would become the Grand Oaks Shopping Center. Later the Stills bought the
property. In 1949 they built their family home and moved to Sycamore Drive.
Jerry’s dad owned a local plumbing company called AR Still and Sons. Jerry followed in his father’s footsteps, starting his own business, Still Enterprises, at the age of 19. He plumbed hundreds of homes and businesses in the region, as well as Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Idaho and Nevada.
In 1960 Jerry and his wife, Helen, graduated from San Juan High School (SJHS). As a proud Spartan. He believed the history of the school should be collected and preserved so in 2013 he helped to establish the Legacy Exhibit at SJHS. (There are very few high schools in this country that have such a place for documenting the history of a specific school. In this sense the Legacy
Exhibit is a pioneer.
Jerry was an enthusiastic supporter of Citrus Heights organizations, including the San Juan Alumni Association, was on the board of the Citrus Heights Historical Society and in 1969 was a charter member of the Sunrise Lions Club.
Jerry’s other interests were keeping in touch with SJHS alumni and managing the Class of ’60 database, organizing bi-monthly luncheon for all SJHS alumni, organizing car shows at community events, such as the annual SJHS alumni picnic, and travel to Parsons in Decatur county, TN, to visit family where his father was born.
Jerry Ray Still is survived by two children, Jerry Still (b. 1961) and Teri Still (b. 1963), two grandchildren, and five great grandchildren.
A memorial is planned for Jerry Ray Still on Sept. 17, at Rusch Park, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Bringing chairs and a side dish is encouraged.
