Deceased remains of a body were found inside a burned mobile home on Friday by investigators, officials said in a press release. The death is being called suspicious.
Citrus Heights Police and fire crews responded to reports of a fire at a mobile home on Plymouth Rock Lane on Sept. 23 just after 10 p.m., in Citrus Heights, and found the home engulfed in flames.
Police canvased the nearby neighborhood in search of anyone who might have seen the occupant of the home that was engulfed in flames but were not able to locate or get in contact with the owner, police said the next morning. Initially, police and fire officials said they did not believe anyone was in the home.
Following the fire, Sacramento Metro Fire District arson investigators continued to investigate the scene and, when they deemed the home safe to reenter, Citrus Heights Police detectives returned to the home Friday morning to conduct a follow up.
Upon further investigation by police detectives, the remains of a deceased male were discovered under heavy debris from the collapsed roof, police said in the press release Saturday.
Crime Scene Investigators, the Sacramento Metro Fire Investigation Team, and the Sacramento County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene to assist with the investigation. The cause of death is currently unknown and still under investigation, pending the results of an autopsy. The identity of the deceased male will be released by the coroner’s office at a later date, officials said.
