Midterms 2026:: Incumbents Niello, Hoover, in tight races for State Senate, Assembly seats

By Sara Beth Williams–
Assembly District 7 incumbent and moderate Republican candidate Josh Hoover continues to battle from behind in a tight race with Democratic challenger Amy Stravensky.

State Assembly District 7: As of Friday evening, Slavensky has remained in the lead with 53 percent of the vote, up by about one percent from Wednesday. The gab between the two has widened from about 5,000 to 7,400 votes and Hoover sits at 46.9 percent of the vote. No announcement of concession has been made by Hoover’s campaign.

Hoover has been elected twice to the Assembly, and previously narrowly defeated democratic candidate and current Citrus Heights City Council member Porsche Middleton in the race for the District 7 seat in 2024, where the two were less than a percentage point away from each other.

State Senate District 6: Incumbent and Republican Roger Niello is leading Democratic challenger Sean Frame in another tight race. As of Friday, Niello led by 51 percent, per the California Secretary of State voting results. Only 5,211 votes separate the two.

United States House:

District 6: As of the latest voting results, candidate Richard Pan, democrat, led independent Kevin Kiley early on by over 60 percent of the vote. Kiley conceded the race to Pan around 9 p.m. on Nov. 3.

Kiley left the GOP and became an independent in hopes of succeeding in the district that had been redrawn as a result of Prop 50’s passage last year. This district shifted a few points to the right due to redistricting, although still favors Democrats.

The next update on Sacramento County races is expected to be announced Tuesday, Nov. 10.
