A heavy police and fire response at the scene of a residential blaze on the 7700 block of Old Auburn Road led to a portion of the roadway near Mariposa Avenue being shut down in both directions for at least an hour on Wednesday morning.
Battalion Chief Jason Vestal told The Sentinel the fire was reported at 10:18 a.m., with Metro Fire deploying additional units to the scene due to a report that someone was inside the residence. He said minor injuries were sustained by the home’s sole occupant.
Vestal said the fire was largely contained to the kitchen, with possible damage caused to the attic. Several broken front windows were also observed, and fire crews cut several holes in the roof to allow venting and assist with search operations.
The fire was “knocked down” in less than 10 minutes of the call being received, the battalion chief said, although about two-dozen fire personnel were still observed cleaning up on site at 11 a.m.
A Citrus Heights Animal Services vehicle also responded, which Vestal said was handling at least one dog that was on the property.
Old Auburn Road was closed down from Mariposa Avenue to Sunrise Boulevard and the entire street was blocked by about a dozen Metro Fire and police vehicles.
Vestal said the cause of the fire was being investigated as of Wednesday, but is not considered suspicious in nature.
