Sports bar in Citrus Heights closes doors
The Tenth Inning bar, located across from Hall’s Furniture on Mariposa Avenue, closed its doors for the final time on Saturday. The bar announced the closure on Facebook, but did not include a reason for its decision. (See Facebook post)
Nielsen criticizes governor over death penalty
Sen. Jim Nielsen, who represents Citrus Heights in the California State Senate, authored an opinion piece published in the Sacramento Bee on Thursday that criticized Gov. Gavin Newsom for putting a moratorium on the death penalty. Citrus Heights officially named ‘Tree City USA’
The City of Citrus Heights has officially been named as a ‘Tree City USA’ for 2018, the city announced on Friday. The recognition came from the Arbor Day Foundation, which annually issues designations to cities who meet certain criteria. (See city news flash)

Great-granddaughter of Van Maren immigrant passes away
Mary E. Robinson, a San Juan High School graduate and great granddaughter of Peter Van Maren, passed away on March 28, 2019. The Van Maren’s came to Citrus Heights during the Gold Rush and homesteaded land near Greenback Lane and San Juan Avenue. (See obituary)
