Through Jan. 13, 2017, Citrus Heights residents can take advantage of free curbside pickup of their seasonal Christmas trees.
According to the city’s general services department, Republic Services customers can recycle their trees by “cutting the tree into pieces to fit it inside the Green Waste Cart with the lid shut for pick up on regular Green Waste collection day.” Trees can also be set next to the trash cart for curbside pickup on regular trash days, from Dec. 26 through Jan. 13.
Residents in apartments and condos can recycle their trees by placing the tree into their green waste dumpster.
Kelly Cunningham, a general services department program assistant, said Christmas trees must be bare to be accepted for recycling, meaning no flocking, lights, ornaments, or tinsel.
The Boy Scout and Cub Scout Troop 215 is also hosting their annual Christmas tree recycling fundraiser at Sunrise Mall. Trees can be dropped off behind Macy’s Women’s Store between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Dec. 31, and Jan. 7-8.
The Scout’s tree recycling is listed as a free community service on the Sunrise Mall event calendar, but donations are typically received in conjunction with the effort to help raise funds.
Broken or unwanted Christmas light strands can also be dropped off for free recycling in the city hall lobby, at 6360 Fountain Square Dr., through Jan. 13.
