Sentinel staff report–
The popular Pet-a-Palooza event will return to Rusch Park in Citrus Heights this year, after being held in William Land Park last year.
With the exception of 2018, Pet-a-Palooza has annually drawn headliner performances on stage in Citrus Heights, featuring popular singers as well as pet-friendly activities, vendor booths, and inflatable slides and activities for kids. Past events have attracted upwards of 10,000 attendees to Rusch Park, according to estimates from the Sunrise Recreation and Parks District.
Update: Entertainment lineup announced for Pet-a-Palooza 2019 at Rusch Park
Parks District Senior Recreation Services Manager Marty Buell confirmed the return of Pet-a-Palooza in an email to The Sentinel on Friday, saying the parks district was pleased to announce the event was returning to Rusch Park. The event is scheduled for March 30, 2019, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The change in venue last year drew some unfavorable responses from prior attendees, as the event had been one of the largest annual attractions in Citrus Heights. Its return had been hoped for by many, including the parks district and Mayor Jeannie Bruins.
“I’m so glad to welcome Pet-a-Palooza back to Citrus Heights,” said Bruins in an email to The Sentinel on Saturday. “It’s such a great event for pet lovers, and there are a lot of us in Citrus Heights, from young children to seniors who have pets as companions.”
Q&A: Why wasn’t Pet-a-Palooza held in Citrus Heights in 2018?
Asked about this year’s schedule for entertainment and stage performances, Buell referred questions to a spokeswoman for the event’s organizer, Bonneville International, who was unable to be reached for comment Friday. As of the parks district’s most recent meeting with organizers several weeks ago, Buell said the schedule was still being worked out.
As previously reported on The Sentinel, Pet-a-Palooza had been put on by CBS Radio up until 2017, but later that year Bonneville took over operation of four radio stations in the Sacramento area that were previously operated by CBS. In an effort to cut costs, the new owners reportedly decided to downsize Pet-a-Palooza and move it to Land Park.
