Sentinel staff report–
Interior demolition has already begun at the former Logan’s Roadhouse restaurant in Citrus Heights, after plans were submitted to the city last month to convert the building into a Boston’s Pizza restaurant and sports bar.
The Canadian-based restaurant chain has over 40 locations in the United States and Mexico, with Citrus Heights on tap to be the first location in northern California. The chain’s menu includes burgers, sandwiches, pizza, pastas, ribs and other entrees.
Franchisee Gurtej Gill confirmed plans for the new restaurant on Wednesday, and the plans also appear on the city’s website.
Alison Bermudez, an associate planner with the City of Citrus Heights, said plans call for remodeling the location with both interior and exterior changes. She said interior demolition is underway, but exterior changes have yet to be approved by the planning division.
The project will not require approval by the Planning Commission, as the existing building will remain intact and the changes are categorized as a “re-occupancy of an existing building.”
The property at 5511 Sunrise Blvd. was purchased by a developer in 2017 who initially sought to demolish the old Logan’s building and construct a new 10,000-square-foot retail and restaurant center situated closer to the street. Those plans changed and the building has sat vacant for the past two years.
A media spokesperson for Boston’s Pizza told The Sentinel on Thursday that it was too early to give an estimated opening date for the location, noting that plans are still in the permitting stage.
