A new restaurant, The Angry Bird – Nashville Hot Chicken, is planning to open at the site of the old Deli Delicious at 5500 Sunrise Blvd. later this month.
Husband-and-wife owners Sam and Diana Ayvazyan of Rancho Cordova hope to build on the success of their two popular Southern California locations, one on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles and another in Van Nuys.
“We’re looking forward to celebrating our grand opening later this month and sharing what makes our chicken tenders so special,” Diana Ayvazyan told The Sentinel. “It’s a great location for customers who might want to grab a quick meal and go, or dine in,” she said.
You won’t find chicken wings served at the new restaurant, just larger-portion chicken tenders or sliders artfully seasoned from mild to scorching hot.
The restaurant will offer four different combo meals starting at $10. A choice of two hot chicken tenders or sliders are offered with four different side dishes and coleslaw and pickles. Sides include macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, coleslaw, french fries, or rice.
One combo features two hot chicken sliders with freshly made coleslaw, pickles and fries. another features two hot chicken tenders over a buttery rice, topped with slaw, pickles and secret sauce.
Chicken spice levels start at “country,” with no heat, and increase to mild, medium, hot, extra hot and “Angry – Sign a Waiver.”
So how hot is hot?
Ayvazyan said customers will have to wait to find out, but their taste buds won’t be disappointed.
In Southern California, Angry Birdz has gained a strong customer following and positive customer service reviews on Yelp.
The pair are hoping that the restaurant’s offering of hot chicken tenders and sliders will send their new Citrus Heights customers returning for more.
“Our chicken is fried in peanut oil and then spiced to taste,” Ayvazyan said. “Our coleslaw is made fresh daily as well as our seasoning sauce,” she said.
A family friendly, non-spiced tender or slider is offered without heat, she said. French fries will be served mild or “angry” style with a potent kick.
“It’s a fun place to enjoy some great chicken,” she said.
Interior construction on the new restaurant began in early April. A colorful yellow Angry Bird mural on the wall will greet customers as they walk in.
Store hours and a specific opening date are yet to be set, but the couple hopes to open by the end of June. A sample menu from the restaurant’s Los Angeles location can be viewed online at angry-birdz.business.site.
