The Citrus Heights Police Department will have additional officers patrolling the city over Memorial Day Weekend, police said in a media release Friday. Officers will be looking for anyone suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and/or drugs.
“Pandemic or no pandemic, it is never okay to drive under the influence,” police said in Friday’s statement, noting that Memorial Day will likely be different from prior years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Police are discouraging large gatherings and urging people to stay home if they have been drinking. Residents are also encouraged to follow advice from public health officials and practice physical distancing by staying six feet away from others, as the state relaxes stay-at-home orders.
Friday’s news release warned that some prescription and over-the-counter medication can also impair driving. Police clarified that while medicinal and recreational marijuana use is legal, driving under the influence of marijuana remains illegal.
