Obituary: Maureen Ann Bashford (1942-2020)
Longtime Citrus Heights resident Maureen Bashford passed away on May 30, according to an obituary published last weekend in The Sacramento Bee. Maureen and her husband Ronald moved to Citrus Heights in 1976, where she worked at Macy’s in Sunrise Mall for 20 years. She was known as a runner and also for her volunteer work with the Placer County SPCA. She is survived by her two daughters and four grandchildren. (See full obituary)
Cancelled events leads to higher sales at area fireworks stands
CBS 13 reported Friday that area fireworks stands have seen a boost in sales this year, apparently due to cancelled fireworks shows. A Citrus Heights stand supporting the Sunrise Little League reportedly saw their sales triple. (See CBS 13 video)
Stones Gambling Hall closes again due to governor’s latest order
Stones Gambling Hall is again closed, following the governor’s announcement of a new round of shutdowns to slow the spread of COVID-19, which included card rooms. Stones had recently reopened on June 12 after several months of closures. (See Stones announcement)
DeAngelo pleads guilty to 13 murders, rapes
Citrus Heights resident Joseph James DeAngelo pleaded guilty on Monday to 13 murders and 13 rapes during the 1970s and 80s, along with admitting to 161 other offences he was never formally charged with. The Golden State Killer’s plea deal was called highly unusual, according to a clinical law professor quoted in the Ventura County Star. (See full story)
