Progress is continuing quickly at the future site of a new Green Acres plant nursery on San Juan Avenue, as the company works to open in time for the expected spring season planting rush.
“We are looking forward to opening our new Citrus Heights location in March, although we do not yet have a date,” said Tami Kint, a spokesperson for Green Acres Nursery and Supply, in an email Saturday.
News of the project was first announced in September last year, with demolition work beginning shortly afterwards as crews took down parts of a vacant building at the site, located at 6128 San Juan Ave., next to Crunch Fitness near Greenback Lane.
Plans include a 24,297-square-foot building with an additional acre of outdoor and greenhouse space. The project is moving forward on schedule, for a spring 2021 opening.

Green Acres is a family owned business that began in Roseville in 2003. The company has grown to include five retail locations throughout the region, offering a wide variety of plants, trees, soils and pottery, among other gardening supplies.
Green Acres locations are also known to host community workshops and events related to gardening. The new business will be the first dedicated nursery in the area since the closure of Capitol Nursery on Madison Avenue in 2012.
