The former Quik Mart at Auburn Boulevard and Kanai Avenue, which closed last year, has reopened with new ownership and a new name: Bottles Up.
Bright new signage can be seen on the building, and a sign near the door indicates the store is under new management. An employee referred all questions to the owner, who wasn’t able to be reached on Saturday.
A staff member at a neighboring business said the space had sat vacant for several months before the new owner took over. He said Bottles Up opened about two months ago. The business’ Facebook page shows it was created November 14.
The new convenience store offers the usual selection of snacks and beverages, along with a larger-than-usual variety of craft beers from Sacramento, Folsom and other parts of Northern California.
An earlier report by The Sentinel shows a combination of personal and economic issues caused the previous owner to close the store, according to a representative for the property manager. The representative, who did not want to be identified because he was not authorized to speak for the convenience store’s owner, previously said the store relied on regular foot traffic from students who would come in after school for snacks.
Both Mesa Verde High School and Sylvan Middle School are located within several blocks of the former K’s Quik Mart, but with campuses closed due to COVID-19, the small convenience store struggled to stay open. That, along with “personal reasons” ultimately led the owner to close down, according to the source.
