Sunrise MarketPlace hosts donation drive to support Ukraine

Updated April 17, 1:05 a.m.–
Sentinel staff report- The Sunrise MarketPlace business improvement district joined forces on Saturday with Deep Roots of Ukraine to host a donation drive in front of the former Men’s Wearhouse on Sunrise Boulevard.

The four-hour event sought to collect tactical gear and medical supplies to send to Ukraine. Items requested to be donated included tourniquets, bandages, combat gauze, decompression needles, dressings, tactical clothing and boots, flashlights and sleeping bags.

Sunrise MarketPlace said in a post on its Facebook page that ordinary donations of food and clothing would not be accepted at the event.

Kathilynn Carpenter, executive director for business district, said the donation drive went well and indicated a news release would be sent out the following week with more details on how the drive turned out.

CBS Sacramento reported that a police officer from Auburn dropped off an old bulletproof vest, while another woman dropped off medical supplies.

The Sunrise MarketPlace was formed in 1999 as a business improvement district that represents more than 400 businesses in the Greenback-Sunrise commercial corridor near Sunrise Mall. The district regularly holds events, including an upcoming “Brews in the Burbs” event next month.
