The Residents’ Empowerment Association of Citrus Heights (REACH) is encouraging participation in “Good Neighbor Week,” a neighborly kindness campaign that runs from Sept. 28 to Oct. 4, 2023.
According to a Sept. 12 email by REACH President Natalee Price, the organization’s goal is to document 500 neighborly acts in Citrus Heights during Good Neighbor Week. Price described neighborly acts as “simple gestures that lift others up,” including participation in neighborhood service projects or sending cards to neighbors.
Community-nominated residents who are the most engaged in their areas will receive an award and city recognition, Price said.
REACH is organizing several neighborhood activities for Good Neighbor Week, beginning with attendance at the Sept. 28 City Council meeting where the city is slated to issue a proclamation officially recognizing Good Neighbor Week.
Residents are also invited to join a citywide yard sale on Sept. 30 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. If participants can’t hold a yard sale at their house, they may rent a 10-by-10 space from the Sunrise Old Auburn Road Neighborhood Association for $20. Space will be set up at the Sylvan Community Clubhouse, located at 7521 Community Drive. (Reservation link)
A block party will also be held following the yard sale, from 1 to 3 p.m. The event is slated to include food, yard games and music, in celebration of Good Neighbor Week.
Price said residents are encouraged to register a neighborly act or nominate a person for the Good Neighbor Award, which honors those who are most active in their neighborhoods. The REACH Good Neighbor Committee and City Council members will determine winners, but all nominees will receive a certificate of appreciation for their contributions.
A registration link has been set up at surveymonkey.com, with nominations being accepted through October 8.
