Events happening in Citrus Heights during the month of August include a theater production, the return of a comic con to Sunrise Mall, several community and fundraising events, and a swim and movie night.
Bye Bye Birdie: Royal Stage Theater will be showing the production of Bye Bye Birdie beginning Thursday evening, Aug. 1, and running through Sunday, Aug. 4. For tickets and show times, visit royalstage.org. Royal Stage theater is located at 6174 Sunrise Mall, behind Macy’s Men’s.

City Scoop: After a cancellation of July’s event due to extreme heat, City Scoop is returning for its final stop this summer on Thursday, Aug. 8 at Lichen K-8. The event will run from 6:30 to 8 p.m. and feature free ice cream for attendees. For more information, visit the city’s website. Lichen K-8 is located at 8319 Lichen Drive.
Travel Ball Tryouts: The Citrus Heights Sentinels travel baseball team is holding tryouts in the 8U category on Saturday, Aug. 10, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Madera Park. For more information, visit the team’s Facebook page. Madera Park is located at 8046 Wonder St.
Hot August Movie Night: Hot August Movie Night returns to Rusch Community Park on Saturday, Aug. 10. The evening begins with a free public swim from 5:30 to 7:30. The movie Wonka will begin at dusk. The Weekend Blender: The comic con vendor fair, billing itself as “Not Your Typical Comic Con,” is returning to the Sunrise Mall Saturday, Aug. 17 and Sunday, Aug. 18. The event will feature vendors selling comics, collectables, anime, and pop culture items, a cosplay contest, as well as professional cosplayers and special celebrity guests. The event takes place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday and from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Visit the event’s Facebook page for more details.
Veterans Center Hawaiian Luau: The Veterans Community Center in Citrus Heights is hosting its fourth annual Hawaiian Luau fundraising event on Saturday, Aug. 24. The festivities begin at 5 p.m. and include a buffet dinner, live music, and a dancing performance by Ka Pá Hula Kalama O Ha’aheo.
