A community car meet and competition aimed at supporting local high school students is scheduled for this Saturday, April 25.
The San Juan Car Meet will be held on April 25 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at San Juan High School, located on Greenback Lane.
Organizers say the event will feature food vendors, competitions, raffle prizes, and music throughout the day. The gathering is open to the public, with free admission for spectators.
“This is actually our third car show overall, but only the second one that has served as a fundraiser. In the past, the show was done in collaboration with a local car club. This year is the first time we’re hosting it independently,” CTE automotive instructor at San Juan High School Aaron Weinberger said, adding that last year’s planned fundraiser was canceled due to construction on the field, which resulted in partial parking lot closures.
Participants who wish to showcase their vehicles can enter for a $20 fee. There are trophies, Weinberger said. Proceeds from the event will go toward supporting the San Juan High School Auto Club, helping fund student activities and future events.
The Auto Club is only in its second year, Weinberger said.
San Juan High School is one of two schools in the San Juan Unified School District to offer an automotive technology career technical education pathway.
In the Automotive Technology pathway, students gain hands-on experience with repair facilities, including learning skills for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) Education Foundation specialties and installation methods for aftermarket electronics, the district’s website says.
Students learn service and repair, shop safety, engine repair, automatic transmissions and transaxles, manual drive trains and axles, suspension and steering, brakes, electrical and electronic systems, heating and air conditioning, and engine performance.
San Juan High School is located at 7551 Greenback Ln.
