Resurfacing Alert: Chip sealing to result in street closures

By Sara Beth Williams–
Over two dozen streets are scheduled for asphalt rubber chip sealing work this week and into next Monday as part of the city’s continued resurfacing efforts.

Last week and early Monday morning, residents living on impacted streets were notified by the city via a flyer regarding upcoming roadwork that is expected to take place all this week and into next Monday. Roadwork is scheduled from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Those residents who are impacted are asked to not park on the street on the scheduled day of roadwork, or risk having their vehicles towed at the owner’s expense. No Parking signs have been placed along impacted roadways.

Following the completion of chip sealing, roads typically reopen immediately. The city asks drivers to drive carefully, without turning suddenly or breaking suddenly due to loose gravel on the roadways.

Street sweeping will take place for two consecutive days following the completion of chip sealing in order to clean loose aggregate from roadways. Residents are asked to avoid parking on the streets during this time.

The following streets, which were scheduled for roadwork on Monday, May 4, will be rescheduled to next Monday, May 11, according to City Construction Manager Ray Leftwich, due to the rainy weather that occurred today.
