The Citrus Heights Food Truck Plaza has finally discarded construction fencing materials revealing new landscaping and fencing along with a newly paved parking lot on the corner of Twin Oaks Avenue and Auburn Boulevard in Citrus Heights.

The new concept is expected to debut soon, according to the owner of the future plaza. Ownership is currently seeking and selecting vendors and anyone interested should reach out to [email protected].

A reel on the food plaza’s Instagram page paints a picture of what the experience for customers could look like at the future food truck plaza, with sweeping aerials of the site. The video takes the viewer on a journey, showing the current image of the vacant corner lot and transforming it into a vibrant 3D animated plaza with various food trucks, string lights, parking, and covered tables where patrons can eat.

Online documents show that, along with new landscaping and fencing, the plaza will have appropriate electrical and water hookups, and applicable garbage and food waste disposal locations for food trucks. The plaza is designed to accommodate at least 15 food trucks.

Owner Jagtar Singh said the property will be well lit with perimeter fencing and security cameras installed. Singh would also like to add Electric Vehicle charging stations.

Currently, the lot has been cleared of weeds and debris, and features a stone slab section for food truck parking, and an asphalt parking lot on the eastern portion of the property to accommodate regular vehicle parking.

The proposed plaza design incorporates a central space for tables with “covered pyramid awnings with lighting.” Several renderings also show colorful triangular canopies as an alternative to pyramid awnings. Lighting would “be directed inward away from neighboring properties,” documents state.

According to prior reports, the owner had anticipated opening sometime in 2025, however, the project experienced several delays due to environmental reviews and regulatory requirements, as well as utility company requirements.

Construction was initially supposed to begin in September 2024, but a permit wasn’t officially issued until August 2025.

The opening date will also depend on securing food truck vendors, and Singh said he has actively reached out to over 20 vendors of varying cuisines and has talked to many in the food truck community.

Singh has posted an announcement on Instagram inviting operators to reserve spots at the plaza. He said the goal is to curate a wide range of cuisines, providing customers with plenty of choices while minimizing direct competition among vendors to prevent vendors offering too-similar menus. Alcoholic beverages will not be available from any food trucks on site.

Singh has remained hopeful despite the delays. He also said the property would be well lit and perimeter fencing and security cameras would be installed. Singh would also like to add Electric Vehicle charging stations.

The Citrus Heights Food Truck Plaza is located on the northeastern corner of Twin Oaks Avenue and Auburn Boulevard.
