The City of Citrus Heights announced the winners of its community photo contest, dubbed ‘Postcards from Citrus Heights’ recognizing local photographers whose images highlighted the city’s urban forest.

This year’s contest invited photographers to capture images showcasing trees throughout Citrus Heights, with the theme focused on celebrating the urban forest and the role trees play in defining the community’s beauty and character.

According to the city, residents submitted photographs and community members participated in voting to help select the winning entries.

Five photos total were selected as the winners, with a tie for two of the three categories. The photos showcased trees at sunset, trees during the fall, one tree photographed at night, and one on a hilltop. View the slideshow on the city’s website here.

In the Community Member Photographer category, for those who are hobby photographers, Karsen Kehlet and William Evans tied for first place.

Professional photographer Diana Miller earned top honors in the Professional Photographer category, with two of her entries tying for first place.

Ryland Wilburn was named the winner in the Youth Photographer category, for photographers under 18.

The annual contest is designed to encourage residents to showcase the people, places and natural features that make Citrus Heights unique, the city says.

City officials thanked all photographers who participated in the contest and community members who cast votes for their favorite images. The photographers will be celebrated at the upcoming Citrus Heights City Council meeting on July 8.
