Citrus Heights police are continuing to investigate after officers on Thursday afternoon responded to reports of a gunshot and a large fight involving more than 20 people across from San Juan High School.

Police Lt. Chad Morris said in an email Saturday that officers responded to a call about the fight on the 6300 block of Mariposa Avenue, and while en route to the scene received an additional report of a gun being fired at the scene. Police said they found approximately 20 to 30 people at the location and one shell casing.

No one is believed to have been injured as a result of the gunfire.

“The investigation is on-going as we sort through the cause of this altercation,” Morris said. “No subjects were arrested and there was no involvement/correlation with the nearby high school. We believe it was an isolated incident and encourage anyone with information to contact CHPD.”

Citrus Heights police took to the social media platform Twitter to send announcements during the altercation. Initial reports were posted just after 3:30 p.m., with an update posted just after 6 p.m. saying officers had cleared the scene.

According to ABC 10, the nearby high school was not placed into lockdown as classes were already out for the day. The news station said the shell casing was found in the parking lot of Wood Glen Apartments.
