Citrus Heights council continues with remote meeting option during pandemic

By Katelyn Rafferty–
The Citrus Heights City Council will hold its June 9 meeting at City Hall, with a continued option for council members and the public to attend remotely due to the pandemic.

The meeting is slated to begin with the proposed approval of a resolution to allow the council to continue to meet remotely, according to an agenda packet for the meeting posted on the city’s website.

In California, under Ralph M. Brown Act, legislative and local governments must hold open and public meetings in person for the public to attend. However, Assembly Bill 361, passed in late 2021, amended this law to allow for local governments to authorize remote communication during a state of emergency, according to the bill’s text.

Governments are still required to post when the meetings will take place and allow the public access and an opportunity to comment.

Currently, the Citrus Heights City Council is holding in-person meetings, but council members are allowed to opt to attend virtually. The public can also attend in-person meetings or join via Zoom online.

In recent months, the council has started each meeting with approval of a resolution to continue the meetings with a remote option, in accordance with AB 361.

City Council meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursday of every month at 7 p.m., but the council is slated to vote on changing that time to 6:30 p.m. Meetings are held at City Hall, located at 6360 Fountain Square Drive.
