Sentinel staff report–
The City of Citrus Heights will host a community workshop on Thursday for the first phase of its Old Auburn Road Complete Streets (OARCS) Plan, which is slated to enter its final design phase later this year.
The event is set for Thursday, Feb. 1, from 5-7 p.m. at the Sunrise Tech Center, located at 7322 Sunrise Blvd. Residents are encouraged to participate, offering feedback and insights on the project, according to the city’s website.
Adopted in 2019, the first phase of the plan focuses on Old Auburn Road between Tiara Way and Garry Oak Drive, with a subsequent phase set to take the project all the way to Sylvan Corners. The project, resulting from public outreach and workshops, aims to prepare construction documents for the road’s improvement, as part of the first phase.
The project includes roadway resurfacing, traffic signal upgrades, new street lighting, storm drain infrastructure repairs, and the installation of separated bike lanes. These steps are part of the federally funded Active Transportation Program grant.
On its website, the city describes the workshop as an opportunity for community members to engage with the project’s development, with the plan marking a significant step in the city’s efforts to address transportation infrastructure on Old Auburn Road.
A project schedule for the first phase of the project posted online shows the project is currently in its environmental compliance and public outreach phase, with the next phase of final design and right-of-way slated for 2024-2025, with a construction start date yet to be determined. A timeline for phase two has not been released, but will extend from Sylvan Corners to Tiara Way.
More about the project can be found on the city’s website. The city says registration for the workshop through Eventbrite is requested, but not required.
