Upcoming overnight closures for Sunrise Boulevard

By Sara Beth Williams–
A portion of Sunrise Boulevard will be closed overnight on Monday, March 2, as SMUD crews work to replace a major power transformer in Citrus Heights.

City officials announced that Sunrise Boulevard from Sayonara Drive to Arcadia Drive/Sun Hill Drive will be closed from 10 p.m. Monday, March 2 until 4 a.m. Tuesday, March 3.

The closure will allow SMUD to replace a 230-kilovolt bulk power transformer at its substation, located near Sunrise Boulevard and Sayonara Drive in Citrus Heights.

According to the city, the transformer serves thousands of customers, and its replacement is considered essential to maintaining the reliability of SMUD’s electrical system.

Electronic message boards have been placed along Sunrise Boulevard to alert motorists of the planned closure, the city siad. Drivers are advised to follow posted detour routes and allow extra travel time.

Residents with questions about the project are encouraged to contact SMUD directly at 1-888-742-SMUD (7683).
