Citrus Heights Arts has announced dates for painting to begin on a new community mural along a sound wall on Auburn Boulevard in Citrus Heights.
The mural, which will be located on the south wall along Auburn Boulevard between San Tomas Drive and Cobalt Way in Citrus Heights, aims to unite residents through art by inviting community members to paint the mural together. Each participant will have the opportunity to contribute their own artistic touch to a larger piece that organizers say celebrates “who we are and where we’re headed.”
Those who signed up to participate in the community mural will be invited to paint on Saturday Sept. 12 and Sunday Sept. 13, the nonprofits announced on social media.
Painting will occur from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., on both days, and there will be music, plus snacks and water provided,
Once the mural is fully completed and dry, Citrus Heights Arts director Gigi Rayford said a protective anti-graffiti coating will be applied at a later date.
“This mural isn’t just paint on a wall—it’s a reflection of Citrus Heights: bold, diverse, and full of heart,” the organization said in an online announcement.
Multiple local residents have been voicing curiosity and concern online regarding the unfinished mural. A portion of the wall was painted early in 2026, but the project was halted due to a long-time local resident who asked the nonprofit to wait until all of his planted flowers along the wall died back.
Due to hot weather, and several other nonprofit organization events and personal commitments throughout the summer, Rayford said unfortunately the project had to be pushed back into the fall. During that time, the nonprofit solicited for community donations and support for the project, which is expensive to complete, Rayford said.
At least 30 artists and community members have reportedly signed up to paint.
Citrus Heights Arts has been involved in multiple mural projects throughout Citrus Heights since the summer, and has established the CH40 Arts District along Auburn Boulevard from Sylvan Corners to the northern city limits. The nonprofit has also partnered with Sunrise Recreation and Park District to bring artwork into multiple parks.
