The majority of gas prices in Citrus Heights exceed $6 a gallon according to a map of gas stations and prices from multiple online sources.
Out of almost two dozen Citrus Heights gas stations listed on Gasbuddy.com, an online site that allows users to search for gas prices at stations locally and nationally, only six stations were still showing prices below $6, with one of the stations showing a price of $5.99 and another showing $5.93. The rest of the stations listed showed prices above $6, ranging from $6.09 at ARCO on Sunrise Boulevard and Old Auburn Road, to $6.69 at Chevron on Greenback Lane and Auburn Boulevard.
For wholesale club members of Costco and Sam’s Club, gas prices are still showing below $6, at $5.85 as of the afternoon of Oct. 1.
Gas prices on GasBuddy.com are crowd sourced by users who log in and report to the website directly the price of gas, and reported prices can fluctuate throughout the day.
Sacramento County’s average price for gas sits at about $6.35 according to AAA’s California map of gas prices, which represents an almost $2 increase from one year ago, where it was recorded as $4.56. Gas prices have increased by $.18 since last week and jumped up $.72 from one month ago.
According to AAA, state-wide, California has an average gas price of $6.43, with a map showing 11 counties shaded in deep red, indicating gas prices higher than $6.50, and 12 counties shaded in light red registering average gas prices of between $6.40-$6.50.
AAA data shows the national average for gas is $4.41, up from $3.16 at this time in 2025. A map of the United States from AAA shows each state’s national average, and lists multiple states in red, indicating gas prices in that state range from $4.70 to $6.40 on average. States with the highest gas prices on average according to AAA’s map include California, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, Hawaii and Illinois.
AAA’s data shows the average price has dropped $.02 cents since last week, but is still up from $4.09, recorded on the first of September.
