A solo-vehicle accident on Sunrise Boulevard snarled traffic on a rainy Tuesday afternoon after a driver hit the center divide south of Woodmore Oaks Drive.
Citrus Heights Police say that officers were dispatched to a solo-vehicle collision at 3:42 p.m. and found a solo driver trapped in his vehicle which had hit the center median.
All southbound lanes of Sunrise Boulevard south of Woodmoore Oaks Drive for a short distance and were shut down temporarily but are now open, police said Tuesday evening.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation, but at this time, Citrus Heights Police do not suspect DUI. Other possible factors, such as speeding, are not yet known at this time.
The vehicle struck a large boulder when it hit the median, causing the boulder to roll into the roadway and block one southbound lane, causing the man to be trapped in his vehicle.
The fire department was able to extricate him and he was transported with moderate injuries. The boulder was removed from the roadway with the help of firefighters, and lanes are now reopened.
