Sentinel staff report–
Citrus Heights police on Friday released a surveillance camera image of a man accused of stealing over $3,000 in goods from the Circle K gas station on Sunrise Boulevard on Valentine’s Day.

Police said the theft occurred around 9:22 p.m. on Feb. 14, where the suspect allegedly entered the store with a camouflage bag and was able to stuff it full of merchandise “while the clerk was distracted.”

Within two hours of the police department posting the suspect’s photo on Facebook, community members quickly shared the post more than 300 times and added nearly 100 comments, many of whom questioned how someone could steal $3,000 in “Twinkies” or candy from a gas station convenience store.

Lt. Dave Gutierrez later told The Sentinel in an email that the items stolen were cartons of cigarettes. He also said police are already looking into several possible leads as a result of the photo being posted on Facebook and said the department is appreciative of the public’s support.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call the police department’s tip line at (916) 727-5524 and reference case number CH19-01173.
