Sentinel staff report–
The Citrus Heights Police Department said Thursday that an investigation into a fatal shooting in a residential neighborhood is still ongoing.

Lieut. Michael Wells said in an email statement that no additional information is being released. In an earlier update Tuesday morning, Wells said “detectives are still working on understanding the details of the incident, so it’s still too early to speculate on a future arrest or self-defense.”

CBS 13 interviewed the deceased man’s mother on Tuesday, identifying the man killed as Sam Harris. She said her son had been visiting friends who lived at the location, but it was unclear what transpired afterward that led to the shooting.

The mother, Vicki Miller, said her son leaves behind two teenage children.

As reported earlier, police responded on Feb. 1 to the 7600 block of Gallant Circle, near Sylvan Corners, and found an adult male in his 50s who had been shot.

A sergeant said officers provided first aid to the man until paramedics arrived. The man was then transported to a nearby hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Police said the initial call came in from a resident who said he had shot someone in his driveway. Both individuals involved knew each other.

Police scanner radio traffic during the incident indicated the man who fired shot(s) had a concealed carry permit for a firearm, but police have not confirmed this or other details about the incident.
