Sentinel staff report–
It didn’t take long after California officially fully re-opened on June 15 for several new businesses to open in Citrus Heights.
The same day the state re-opened, a brand new nail salon and cafe both opened their doors for business in a newly remodeled section of the Citrus Grove shopping center on the 8400 block of Auburn Boulevard, near the border with Roseville. Several weeks later, a new discount wholesaler opened in the former Smart & Final location.

Venice Nail Salon was opened by entrepreneur Houston Chau, who told The Sentinel in a prior interview that his business venture was inspired by a trip he took to Italy four years ago. The 3,000-square-foot salon is modeled after Italy and features 16 spa chairs.
The salon offers services like manicures, pedicures, facials, and waxing. Customers are also treated to complimentary Italian wine, juice, bottled water and snacks as the technicians work on beautifying hands and feet.
The Greenhouse Cafe, located two doors down from the salon, was opened by brother-and-sister owners Peter Mazur and Susanna Stepchuk. The café is still in its “soft opening” phase, with limited menu options, although more choices continue to be added.
Hours are tentatively 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., Tuesday to Sunday, and menu offerings include various coffee and tea options, along with menu items like lox bagels, Caesar salads, Caprese sandwiches, stuffed French toast, various crepes, cookies and cakes.
The cafe features a spacious interior, including a “living wall” with indoor plants taking up the entire wall. A new patio area is also available for dining.

Closer to Auburn Boulevard, Charity Shop Wholesale opened its doors on July 1. The company buys overstock items, customer returns, and damaged boxes for re-sale at about half the retail price. Inventory comes from big box retailers such as Lowe’s, Home Depot, Target, Amazon, Ashley Furniture, and Cost Plus World Market, according to a manager.
The new store is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and is located at 8481 Auburn Blvd.

The shopping center where the three new businesses are located was once slated to include a new Studio Movie Grill, but plans were abandoned last year and the half-finished project has remained an eye-sore for the center.
Signs of life have recently surfaced however, as an Arizona-based real estate investment company recently purchased the property. Plans have not been announced, but the company, STORE Capital, focuses on acquiring properties through cash purchases and then leasing them out to long-term tenants.
