Citrus Heights welcomed a variety of new businesses this year, including restaurants, grocery stores, gaming and sports practice facilities, a coffee shop, and more. Below is a list of several businesses The Sentinel has covered that opened or relocated and expanded in 2025.
Teriyaki Madness: the Marketplace at Birdcage saw a handful of shops open in 2025, including Teriyaki Madness, a fast-casual restaurant that specializes in building your own teriyaki bowls. Teriyaki Madness opened in the former Starbucks location adjacent to Barnes & Noble.

Triple Crown Cages: Opening in the former Tuesday Morning building in January, the new batting cage practice facility fulfills a need in the area for more sports practice and entertainment options. Triple Crown Cages is located at 7255 Greenback Ln.

Los Nogales: Filling the spot of Gilberto’s tacos restaurant, which had operated at their location on Auburn Boulevard for eight years, Los Nogales offers residents Mexican food to go, with staple Mexican dishes and great taste, according to neighboring business owners. Los Nogales is located at 7150 Auburn Blvd.

Fire and Ice gaming shop: Down the street from the Marketplace at Birdcage, a gaming shop opened up to an enthusiastic crowd of people early in 2025. Fire and Ice is located at 6245 Sunrise Blvd.

Smash Sacramento: A new rage room relocated from Carmichael to Citrus Heights in 2025, bringing a unique entertainment experience to local residents, including virtual reality escape games, paintball, “smash sessions,” axe throwing, and more. Smash Sacramento is located at 6412 Tupelo Drive, Suite A and B.

Nothing Bundt Cakes: Sunrise Village shopping center has seen several new tenants including two in 2025, beginning with Nothing Bundt Cakes, a national bakery chain specializing in a myriad of bundt cakes and party supplies. Nothing Bundt Cakes opened in September and is located at 7855 Madison Ave.

Pinkberry: Pinkberry also opened in Sunrise Village, after several months of delay. The yogurt shop previously resided in Citrus Heights several years ago down the street from its new location. Pinkberry opened in October and is located at 5437 Sunrise Blvd.

Must Be Cow: A new Korean BBQ and sushi all-you-can-eat restaurant opened in November in the building formerly home to Boston Pizza, following months of interior renovation. The new sit-down restaurant is located adjacent to a now-vacant lot which once held Marie Callender’s. Must Be Cow is located at 5511 Sunrise Blvd.

Sunrise Montessori: After significant delays, the preschool opened in time for the 2025-26 school year offering a unique mix of educational opportunities and extended childcare for over 100 students, including exposure to Montessori and Waldorf methods, along with music and dance classes.

DHL Express: An international shipping service hub opened this year near Sam’s Club and Safeway, offering residents reliable international shipping right here in Citrus heights. DHL Express ServicePoint is located at 7291 Greenback Ln.

Black Sails Coffee Lounge: From a mobile coffee roasting vendor to a permanent location, the owners of Black Sails Coffee Lounge opened in the Marketplace at Birdcage in mid-July after suffering multiple personal delays and hardships. The spacious coffee shop offers residents a relaxing space to gather with regular and seasonal local coffee drinks. Black Sails Coffee Lounge is located at 5925 Birdcage Centre Ln., Suite 102.

Pressure Barbering Company and Salon: A high-end barber shop opened at Sylvan Corners in April of this year, providing a necessary service with a flair of luxury. The new barber shop has a 5-star review average and is located at 7034 Sylvan Rd.

Mancini’s Sleepworld: When Skechers relocated from the Citrus Town Center across the street to a larger building at the end of 2024, Mancini’s World sought out and successfully opened in the former shoe store’s building in mid-2025.

United Martial Arts Academy: The martial arts academy filled the space of the iconic building in Copperwood Square on Sunrise Boulevard, once home to Hollywood Video and Ashley Furniture, after years of remaining vacant. The martial arts academy is located at 7010 Sunrise Blvd.

Gas station and Sonic Drive In: Following years of delays and construction, a new Sonic Drive-in restaurant and accompanying ARCO gas station opened at the corner of Roseville Road and Antelope Road on the edge of Citrus Heights. While the location has a Citrus Heights postal address, the city confirmed that Sonic and ARCO both fall just outside the city’s boundary lines.

Bargain Supermarket: A new convenience store opened near the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Greenback Lane in September, filling a building which had been vacant for several years. The shop opened in August and is located at 7817 Greenback Ln.

Re-New Winter Sports: A small shop that specializes in reselling winter clothes and sports equipment opened just before Thanksgiving according to the owner, who said the shop relocated from Orangevale into a larger store in Citrus Heights. The winter sports shop is located at 8252 Auburn Blvd.

Retail shuffle: At least two businesses in the city relocated from one building to another this year, including Caravan Uzbek Cuisine, which relocated from a small restaurant space on the corner of Sunrise Boulevard and Antelope Road to a much larger restaurant space at Sylvan Corners. In contrast, the Discount Store, once located in the former Smart and Final building on Auburn Boulevard, relocated to a smaller space in the Grand Oaks Shopping Center down the street.
