Nighttime construction to take place on Greenback Lane into the summer

By Sara Beth Williams–
The Citrus Heights Water District began nighttime construction activities on westbound Greenback Lane between Birdcage Street and Mariposa Avenue on Wednesday, May 6,  as part of the District’s proactive Project 2030 Water Main Replacement Program.

In a press release, the Water District reported that the project includes installation of a new 12-inch water pipe and restoring pavement within the work area and will be continuing through the summer months overnight.

The construction project has been scheduled in advance of anticipated Greenback Lane improvements identified in the City of Citrus Heights’ 2025-2027 Pavement Restoration Plan to coordinate construction activities across agencies and minimize impacts to the public.

Construction activities will include:

  • Locating underground utilities
  • Saw cutting pavement to prepare for construction
  • Excavating, trenching, and backfilling
  • Installing 1,520 feet of new water pipe
  • Restoring pavement within the work area in coordination with the City of Citrus Heights

Work will take place nightly between 9 p.m. and 5:30 a.m., Sunday night through Friday morning, and is expected to continue through late summer. Nighttime scheduling helps reduce impacts to daytime traffic and allows crews to work more efficiently, the district says.

During construction, multiple westbound lanes on Greenback Lane will be temporarily closed overnight within the project area. Traffic control measures will be in place to help maintain traffic flow and ensure public safety.

Residents and motorists in the area may experience temporary construction noise, lighting, lane adjustments, or traffic delays during overnight work hours.

The project is part of the Water District’s ongoing water main replacement program, through which the District currently has invested $2 million annually to maintain reliable water service, the media release says.

Citrus Heights Water District says they appreciate the community’s patience and understanding while important infrastructure improvements are completed.
